What is a shade sail?
A shade sail is a device to create outdoor shade based on the basic technology as a ship's sail. Shade sails use a flexible membrane tensioned between several anchor points. While generally installed permanently, they are cheap and easy to set up.
What is the material of shade sail?
Shade sail are made with HDPE knitted breathable fabric. It is dimensional stable fabric and comes with 2 year manufacturer warranty against UV degradation.
What is the benefit to use shade sail?
Shade sails can be used in a number of residential, commercial, and industrial applications. They are used to cover outdoor areas where people usually hang out. They are popularly used in outdoor home areas such as backyards, patios, verandas, barbecue areas, poolsides, and landings. They are also ideal in public places such as parks, playgrounds, preschool areas, rotundas, and amphitheaters. Many recreational areas also take advantage of the benefits of shade sails including golf clubs, sport courts, resorts, and country clubs. Yachts and large ships also make use of shade sails to cover and protect their passengers from the sun.
Protection from the sun
Shade sails are designed to cover outdoor areas and protect people from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. The best shade sails offer up to 98% UV protection. With shade sails, almost no harmful solar element can penetrate and damage the skin even on the hottest time of the day. Using shade sails protect people from getting sunburn and skin cancer.
Aside from turning away the UV rays and the hotness of the sun, shade sails also provide ventilation. They are made of breathable materials that allow cool air to circulate in the area they are covering. Shade sails usually provide more than 15 degrees of cool atmosphere than ordinary steel roofs can.
Semi-permanence of shade sails
Unlike roofs, shade sails are not permanently installed. They can be set up whenever there is a need to and taken down when they are not needed anymore. Shade sails are not designed to withstand wind storms and other extreme weather conditions. In case these conditions occur, the shade sails can easily be taken down to protect them from being damaged, and then set them up again when the weather gets better.
Shade sails add aesthetic value to the areas they cover. With the right design, they can make gardens, patios, and verandas more appealing and welcoming. Shade sails come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, designs, and fabrics that can complement any outdoor area. They can also be customized by experts and professional designers to meet the customers' preferences.
How to install a shade sail?
SELECTING A SHADE SAIL
There are two types of shade sail available. The Medium Duty Shade Sail comes with attached rope at all four corners and is made with lighter weight fabric. The second type is the Heavy Duty Shade Sail made in heavier GSM fabric and comes with tensioning accessories for long term installations.
The Medium Duty Shade Sails with Ropes are easier and faster to install but not as strong and sturdy as the Heavy Duty Shade Sails with tensioning accessories. The choice of shade sail is dependent on the application, surroundings and also the abilities of the installer.
For shading balconies, verandas or small areas in gardens or driveways, we recommend buying the Medium Duty Shade Sails with Ropes. For shading areas bigger than 25sq. meter like public areas, biger driveways, playground structures etc. we recommend the Heavy Duty Shade Sails as they are more durable, stronger and can resist very heavy winds.
INSTALLING A SHADE SAIL
Typically, a couple of people reasonably competent in DIY could install a Shade Sail in a few hours. Observe that additional time might be needed if solid fixing points aren’t available – in this situation more time might be needed for drilling holes or installing fasteners for tying the shade sails.
It is important to plan ahead when considering the installation of a shade sails, especially with regard to the area to be shaded (shape and relation to the position of the sun) and the availability of suitable fixing points.

MESASURING THE SHADE SAIL SIZE
It is very important to order the correct size of shade sail. Shade Sails are tensile structures and need to be taught in order to perform and avoid wear and tear. It is important that the shade sails size should be smaller than the end to end distance between the fixing points. Generally we recommend a distance of 1ft (30cm) in front of each fixing point as the point to measure the size of the shade sail. Shade sails are often mounted on structures that offer a good solid attachment point. This may be the wall of a house or wooden or metal posts concreted in to the ground. Keep in mind that Shade Sails are quite large and also the forces produced in the mountings by even a tiny bit of wind could be considerable. We do not recommend attaching shade sails to flimsy or temporary structures that could move or be damaged by high forces at the mounting points.
